Ballygunner odds-on to seal Munster treble with Na Piarsaigh and Kiladangan also in the mix

Ballygunner odds-on to seal Munster treble with Na Piarsaigh and Kiladangan also in the mix

Kiladangan won the Dan Breen cup this year

Ballygunner are odds-on favourites at 1/2 with BoyleSports to complete a hat-trick of Munster Senior Hurling titles ahead of a blockbuster provincial showdown with Na Piarsaigh.

Tipperary champions Kiladangan are in the other semi final and while they are outsiders to challenge the top two, they are ahead of Clonlara in the stakes to reach the final.

Last time out Ballygunner struck goals either side of half-time from Peter Hogan and Kevin Mahony which contributed to a one-sided 17-point rout of Cork champions Sarsfields and helped the ten-in-a-row Waterford champions cruise into the last four in Munster for a repeat of last season’s semi-final clash with Na Piarsaigh.

The Limerick side have been made 5/2 underdogs to make amends for last season’s defeat and reach the provincial final, but it’s Ballygunner who will start as 4/11 favourites to progress.

Support is also growing for the Déise kingpins to be crowned All-Ireland champions for the second time in the space of three seasons. BoyleSports makes them 11/8 frontrunners for the Tommy Moore Cup, although their Treaty opponents are also prominent in the betting as 6/1 third favourites.

The Munster duo are separated by 5/1 second favourites St Thomas, who have already booked an All-Ireland semi-final thanks to their sixth successive Galway title at the expense of Turloughmore.

Tipperary champions Kiladangan are currently at 14/1 for the All-Ireland crown and they will hope to breach a gap between Tipperary winners of the Moore Cup, that has now stretched back as far as Borris Ileigh in 1987.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Ballygunner will have to tame the Treaty champs to keep their treble bid on track in Munster, but confidence isn’t in short supply and they are the side being singled out as likely All-Ireland winners.”
