Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup - Round 2 - Group A
Mary Immaculate College 1-25
UCC 0-22
Jamie Wall's Mary Immaculate College team impressed in their victory over UCC in Limerick having dominated large parts of the contest to claim victory.
Despite leading by just two points at the break by a scoreline of 0-15 to 0-13, the Limerick college took control of the game in the second half, with Declan McLaughlin's decisive goal late in the game a clinching score as the players in blue cruised to victory after that.
From a Tipperary perspective, Mary I were well represented with Premier hurlers with Devon Ryan top scoring for his side with 0-9 on the day - mostly from placed balls - while JD Devaney (Borris-Ileigh) bagged 0-2 from corner forward.
Others to impress were Cathal Quinn (Cashel King Cormacs) and Joe Caesar (Holycross Ballycahill) in the halfback line, while Conor Hennessy (Nenagh Éire Óg) played the full game at midfield and put in a good shift.
Keith Ryan (Upperchurch Drombane) started at fullback but was substituted early in the second half after 36 minutes, while Ciaran Lloyd (Moyne Templetuohy) featured as a late substitute, coming on in injury time.
UCC's sole Tipperary player to feature on the day was Darragh Stakelum (Thurles Sarsfields) and while he worked hard, he couldn't influence the game and was withdrawn in the 48th minute as the Cork side chased the game.
Mary I are in a good position now, with Maynooth the third team in this group. UCC must beat the Kildare college if they are to have any hope of progressing to the quarter-finals.
