Tipperary and St Marys goalie Enda Dunphy in action for TUS Midwest.
Fitzgibbon Cup - Group A - Round 3
University College Cork 4-21
Maynooth University 0-13
A slow start to the game from UCC was firmly put in the rearview mirror in the second half as the Cork college destroyed Maynooth by the game's end in the Mardyke last night to set up a quarter-final clash with reigning champions UL.
There was plenty of Tipperary input in this game with Darragh Stakelum starting at midfield for UCC, while Peter McGarry came on as a first-half substitute after Ben Cunningham hobbled off late in the first period.
Stakelum played the whole game at midfield and got through a lot of work but his shooting let him down at times as he hit at least three wides in the game. McGarry on the other hand had his shooting boots on as he hit five points from play and also set up one of Shane Barrett's goals in the second half.
Meanwhile, Maynooth had Colm Fogarty (Lorrha), Kevin Bracken (Thurles Sarsfields), and David Fogarty (Holycross Ballycahill) started the game for the Kildare institution.
A clearly injured Colm Fogarty played some decent stuff in the game but a heavy strapping to his leg curtailed his influence greatly, while Kevin Bracken mad a mistake for the first goal but was otherwise helpless for the other three. David Fogarty made way at half-time.
