Electric Ireland Higher Education GAA Fitzgibbon Cup Quarter-Final
University of Galway 4-24
MTU Cork 1-14
MTU CORK’S 2024 Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup dream is over after being defeated by a very strong University of Galway side at Dangan, on the outskirts of Galway City, on Wednesday evening.
This quarter-final encounter was a highly entertaining affair in the early stages, but ultimately it was the University of Galway's quality that was the difference.
MTU Cork had a good first half and at one point, they led 0-7 to 0-6 against their fancied opponents but as the game wore on, the Galway men wore down their opponents as their class showed with four goals scored in an easy victory.
Barry Kehoe of Kilsheelan Kilcash was the only Tipperary player on show as the former underage footballer started the game for MTU Cork. He managed to score a point on the day but as the game faded for the Cork team, he was replaced late on.
University of Galway now march onto the semi-final where they will face their final nemesis of the past two years in the University of Limerick for a place in the 2024 decider.
