Disappointment as Rhasidat Adeleke is ruled out of Irish Track and Field Championships

The sprinter has confirmed she will instead focus on recovering from recent injuries in order to get back to her scintillating best

Disappointment as Rhasidat Adeleke is ruled out of Irish Track and Field Championships

The recurrence of an injury has ruled out the Tallaght athlete from competing in her home championships

Rhasidat Adeleke has announced she will not be participating in the Irish Track and Field Championships in Santry this weekend.

The Olympic sprinter has expressed her disappointment about missing the home tournament citing the recurrence of an old injury as the main factor.

Adeleke broke the news, this Friday, through her X account saying: "Hey guys, unfortunately I won't be competing at the national championships this weekend. I've attended nationals every year since 2021 and there's nothing like competing in front of a home crowd".

The Tallaght athlete outlined her reasons for pulling out commenting: "An injury I had earlier this season has transcended into additional lingering setbacks so I'll be supporting from afar. I'll hopefully be back to get some Morton magic next year. I'm forever grateful for all the support. Best of luck to everyone racing."

Adeleke has fond memories racing in the Irish national track and field championships where she set a new national record last year posting a time of 11.13 in the Women's 100M in Morton Stadium.

The 22-year old has been racing in the Diamond League but rumours of injuries have been prevalent as of late after being spotted with tape across her leg at the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon earlier this month. She subsequently withdrew from the Monaco edition although no reason was alluded to at the time.

Even though the Dublin sprinter has now confirmed her struggle with injuries throughout the season, she will be intent on getting back to her scintillating best as she continues her preparations for the September's World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
