Two parts of the Suir Blueway are now inaccessible as resurfacing works are underway

A popular walkway in Tipperary has been partially closed and will remain so for 10 weeks to allow for upgrading works to take place.

The Suir Blueway is now closed from Ballynoran Stud Farm and from MSD.

The closure is to facilitate resurfacing and widening works, according to a post on Facebook.

The trail will reopen on weekends and close again early on Monday mornings before becoming inaccessible again.

Tipperary County Council has apologised for any inconvenience that the closure may cause to walkers and cyclists.

The section that will be inaccessible from Ballynoran Stud Farm is roughly 5km outside of Carrick-on-Suir, while MSD is roughly 7km from the town.

The Suir Blueway runs from Cahir to Carrick-on-Suir, via Clonmel.

It is 53km in an east-to-west direction and is made up of a walking/cycling trail for 21km, as well as a further 32km of waterway.

Many people enjoy using the water for recreational activities such as canoeing and kayaking, according to the Suir Blueway website.

It was officially opened in 2019 at a cost of €6million to the State.
