Injury rules experienced Tipperary player out of rugby World Cup

Dorothy Wall is set to miss the rugby World Cup through injury.

The IRFU has confirmed that the Fethard woman will be sidelined for a number of months after sustaining an Achilles tendon injury during last weekend’s Guinness Women’s Six Nations clash against Scotland in Edinburgh.

She is due to undergo surgery in Dublin today and the recovery and rehabilitation process will rule her out of Ireland’s pre-season and Rugby World Cup campaign, which gets underway in England in August.

She is one of the most experienced players in the Irish squad, with 37 caps, and would likely have been part of the first-choice second row partnership for the World Cup.

“I’m devastated to be missing the next couple of months, but my main focus now is on my rehab programme and I’m looking forward to supporting the team in the Rugby World Cup,” she said.

Dorothy, who turns 25 this Sunday, is wished all the best in her recovery.
