The Templemore Friends of the Community Convent steering group are pleased to finally be in a position to share an awaited update on the effort to purchase the former local Convent of Mercy building by Templemore Community Services Centre on behalf of the community.
From the outset, they say they were deeply encouraged by the strength of local support and the support received from public representatives, state agencies and local professionals.

Thanks to the peoples' belief in the vision, they successfully petitioned for the interests and needs of the community to be considered in the sale of this iconic local building, particularly in order to provide the opportunity to enhance and further develop the services currently delivered by Templemore Community Services from its Bank Street Centre by a dedicated and committed team of staff and volunteers.
The legal procedures involved in the process proved to be very complex and challenging and significantly impacted on the expected purchase timeline.
However, they are now very pleased to say that the process is progressing favourably towards a conclusion, with the support being received from the HSE, Tipperary North TD Michael Lowry and the Sisters of Mercy, all critical to its expected success.
While the process is taking longer than expected and is yet to be concluded, there was little concrete news to share until now.
The group says they truly appreciate everyone's patience and understanding.

As they approach the final stages of the sale, they now turn our focus to the next phase: Fundraising — to refurbish and develop the former Convent building, initially to deliver the Day Care, Meals on Wheels and other services currently on offer at Bank Street to the local community and hinterlands.
The group says they will be in touch very soon with more information and ways to get involved.
They say your continued support will be more important than ever.
They want to sincerely thank each and every one of you who support the project and stand with them on this journey.
Your encouragement and community spirit continues to make this possible.
