Charlie O'Brien's grand-daughter Breda Collins presenting the Charlie O'Brien Gents scratch cup 2018 to Ronan Loughnane. Also included Patrick Kennedy, Mary Quinn, Myles McMorrow and Bridget Shelley
Sunday the 16th saw our annual Charlie O'Brien scratch cup take place which was blessed with some lovely Autumnal sunshine. After 36 holes only two shots separated Michael Fennell, Noel Leahy, Ronan Loughnane and Brian Cahill while the Ladies was equally as tight with Martha O'Brien holding a slight advantage over Elaine Quinn, Bridget Shelley and Mary Quinn. There was to be no catching Martha in the final 18 however as she held off a determined challenge from Bridget Shelley to claim the title.
The Gents went right down to the wire with Brian Cahill finishing very strongly to set the clubhouse target on 15 under par. Standing on the last tee box Noel Leahy was 14 under with Michael Fennell and Ronan Loughnane tied with Cahill on 15 under. The auld dog for the hard road however as the PRO pitched to 3 feet to bring Charlie home for the second time.
To Liam and Marie O'Connell we say a huge thank you for your continued support of this prestigious competition and to the O'Brien and Guider families for their presence at the presentation. The club hosted the National Mixed Foursomes on the 15th but unfortunately didn't feature in the medals.
