Independent TD for Tipperary, Mattie McGrath, has warmly welcomed the announcement this week of new government funding for Men’s Sheds across Ireland.
The funding is set to provide vital support for the continued operation and development of these important community-based initiatives.
Deputy McGrath, a long-time advocate for the Men’s Shed movement, had called for increased support in Dáil Éireann last month, highlighting the invaluable role Sheds play in combating isolation, promoting mental well-being, and fostering community spirit among men of all ages.

"This announcement is a very welcome step,” Deputy McGrath said.
"In my contribution to the Dáil last month, I made it clear that Men’s Sheds are not just social spaces—they are lifelines for many men in rural and urban Ireland.
"I am delighted to see this recognition reflected in this week’s funding commitment."
Deputy McGrath also emphasized the importance of ensuring that the funding reaches grassroots sheds efficiently and without unnecessary bureaucracy: "We must ensure this support reaches the local groups who are doing the work on the ground. These volunteers and members deserve nothing less."
