Kaysie Joyce has won her eighth national title

Following her latest triumph in the ring, Clonmel boxer Kaysie Joyce has been called into squad training by The High Performance Unit in Abbotstown for the Irish Team in preparation for the Four Nations Championships in Motherwell, Scotland on Wednesday, June 10.

The boxer nicknamed ‘Copper’ recently won the Under 19 National Boxing title at the National Boxing Stadium at the age of just 16.

This is a remarkable achievement for the Baron Park, Clonmel pugilist. The Clonmel Boxing Club captain has now won her eighth national title, adding to a very impressive record.

She beat Cassie Henderson from county Antrim, the European champion and Irish team captain in the semi-final.

This was Kaysie’s best performance in a Clonmel vest. Standing tall and backing herself, she followed the gameplan set out by coach Bobby Galvin. She showed fast hands, counterpunching, movement and composure under pressure. She also displayed excellent defence while controlling the bout from start to finish.

In the final the next day she was up against another Irish champion from county Meath, the tough as teak Chloe Poleon. Both these girls can fight and it was a great final to watch for the neutrals, where Kaysie went on to have her hand raised in victory, with huge respect shown to each other by both Chloe and Kaysie after the bout.
