European boxing champion from Tipperary wants shot at world title

‘The Carrigeen Queen’ Shauna Browne beat France’s Lilia Cherifi to win European title
Clonmel’s Shauna Browne is celebrating this week after she became the first Irish female professional boxer to win a European title.
The Carrigeen Queen was crowned WBO European Lightweight champion following a convincing title win in Brentwood, Essex on Sunday night.
Taking on French fighter Lilia Cherifi, she scored two knockdowns in the third round before the referee stepped in to stop the bout. The win means that she has won eight of her nine fights, including five knockouts, as a professional.
She is now hoping to secure a world title fight with title holder Caroline Dubois.
Having trained with Katie Taylor for the Bray fighter’s last two fights against Amanda Serrano, Browne is now ready to take over the division her close friend dominated for years.
On her Instagram account, Shauna said “Won’t get tired of hearing it. Not only did I win the belt but I made history. I’m the first Irish Female to ever win a European Title.
“Just winning the belt was not good enough, was it.
“A night I will never forget from start to finish. Moments I’ve dreamt about since I was a teenager.
“I’ve been blessed with this life, and I plan to cherish every single moment no matter what.
“To every single fighter out there, always remember after big nights to give yourself a pat on the back. We always love thanking everybody and owing it all away but at the end of the day, It’s all down to you in the end. What we put ourselves through physically but in my opinion more mentally is insane, but what fighter is sane, really.
“We are a special breath.
“You tell me I can’t do it, I’ll do it in style. That’s me and that will never change.
“This is the beginning. I have my team and it’s a team I’m super proud of.
“To every amazing beautiful soul that bought a ticket and came. This night was for all of you and many more to come. You made it so special, that ring walk was iconic.
“Imagine it in Dublin on September 5.
“A huge shout out to all of my amazing sponsors. None of this would have been possible without you”.
