Traffic plans aim to limit delays for Tipperary and Cork fans travelling to All Ireland Final

Minister Buttimer asked officials that every possible measure be put in place to ensure that traffic flows as efficiently as possible for anyone driving to the game on Sunday.

There must be a better way to commute than the N7 traffic jam

Cork TD & Minister of State in the Department of Transport, Jerry Buttimer, has said that he welcomes traffic management plans for Cork and Tipperary fans heading to the All Ireland Hurling Championship Final in Croke Park on Sunday.

Minister Buttimer has met and spoken with officials from the Department of Transport, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, The National Transport Agency, Iarnród Eireann and Bus Éireann over the last week, as the build up to the final gathers pace.

Two weeks ago for the All Ireland Semi final, there was an unprecedented number of Cork fans travelling to Croke Park, which caused significant traffic volume and some tailbacks at the toll plazas.

When meeting officials this week, Minister Buttimer asked that every possible measure to be in place to ensure the traffic flows as efficiently as possible for anyone driving to the game, especially through the toll plazas.

Minister Buttimer also asked for extra train and bus services to be put on, which have since been added and fully booked by Cork and Tipperary fans.

Minister Buttimer thanked Stephen Hackett and all at Iarnród Eireann for ensuring seven extra trains were added.

In welcoming the plans, Minister Buttimer said, “I want to thank my officials in the Department, and across TII, the NTA, Iarnród Eireann Éireann, and everyone else who is collaborating to ensure people get to the match safely, comfortably and on time”.

Plans for All Ireland Final Day

  • Toll operators will have a full complement of management, operational and backup staff through the day on All-Ireland Final day.
  • All operators, both PPP and TII MMaRC contractors will have fully mobilised teams of Incident Support Unit (ISU) vehicles operating along the M8, M7 and M50 routes to deal expeditiously with any collisions or breakdowns.
  • In addition, Direct Route in Fermoy will deploy additional staff to Corrin Junction (J 15) toll plaza to ensure that both lanes are used efficiently to avoid a repeat of the Semi-Final Day congestion.
  • Motorway VMS signage on the approaches to Dublin will provide updates on available parking at Red Cow, City-West and Carrickmines (M50) Luas Park-And-Rides. In particular, match goers will be notified promptly when these are reaching capacity.
  • A messaging campaign on social media across Linkedin, eFlow and TII Traffic Website has been underway since Monday.
