Festival Cluain Meala is late summer treat

The countdown to the eagerly-awaited Festival Cluain Meala is almost over, with the event now just around the corner.

The countdown to the eagerly-awaited Festival Cluain Meala is almost over, with the event now just around the corner.

The weekend event will start at 7pm at Old St. Mary’s Church on this Friday, 26th and includes a special performance by Micheál O’ Suilleabhain and Banna Chluain Meala, followed at 9pm by a Medieval Inn Trail. Medieval Costumes are available for a €20 deposit (refundable that night).

Clonmel Walled Towns Evening on Saturday, 27th August at 7pm will be a free family fun evening, held at Gordon Place car park beside Clonmel’s Town Walls. Entertainment includes medieval jousting, a combat school, workshops, best medieval dressed competition, re-enactments and a fire display.

During the festivities a ticketed Medieval Themed Banquet (including a three-course meal- Adults €25, Children €12.50) will be served. Tickets are limited and are being sold at South Tipperary County Museum, The Narrow Space, Clonmel Tourist Office and Gleeson’s pub.

The Free Festival which will be held all day on Sunday, 28th August will celebrate Food and Farming at the Main Guard, Sarsfield Street and the Quay. A Tipperary Breakfast will be served at Hearn’s Hotel from 8am–12.30pm for €9.50, with locally-sourced produce.

Free events from 12 noon until 5pm on Sunday will include craft stalls, workshops, exhibitions, family fun, music, willow fencing, butter making, beekeepers, stocks and a blacksmith.

As part of the festival the Clonmel Business and Industries Exhibition is being displayed in the Main Guard until 10th September.

The festival will provide an opportunity to relax and soak up the atmosphere before the summer draws to a close.
