One athlete bidding for seven in a row at Tipperary County Senior Road Championships

Ballyneale is the venue this Sunday for the Tipperary County Senior Women and Men’s Road Championships, the blue riband events of the County Road season.

Athletes, please note that both races will start at 10am. The women will race over 5k while the distance for the men’s race is 10k. Eligibility for these championship races is that athletes must be 20 years of age as of December 31 2026.

In the team event for these championships, all clubs will compete in the A Section while the B Section is open to all the clubs who enter more than one team.

In the team event it is three to score on the women’s team in both the A and B section, while in the men’s race it is four athletes to score in the A Section and three to score in the B Section.

These championships are open to all registered athletes in the county who are 20 years of age and older as of December 31 2026.

Hopefully all clubs will encourage as many members as possible to compete in these championships over what is a relatively flat course in Ballyneale, and which is ideal for PBs over these classic distances. The Eircode for the venue is E32 NR13.

Last year’s event in Dundrum saw Dymphna Ryan of Dundrum AC winning the women’s title and all going well she will be going for seven in a row in Ballyneale on Sunday, some achievement.

Moyne AC won the club title with their team of Louise Fogarty, Sharon Cantwell and Orla Healy and they will be aiming to retain that title. They can expect good competition from clubs like Dundrum AC, Fethard AC, Clonmel AC, Mooreabbey Milers AC, Thurles Crokes AC and Carrick-on-Suir AC.

Last year the men’s title was won by Mossy Bracken, Moycarkey Coolcroo AC. Mossy will be aiming to go three in a row with a win on Sunday.

Moycarkey Coolcroo AC won the club title in 2025 with their team of Mossy, Matthew Ryan, Shane Minogue and Conor Keating. They likewise will be aiming to retain this coveted title and can expect strong competition from clubs such as Fethard AC, Clonmel AC, Mooreabbey Milers AC, Carrick-on-Suir AC, Dundrum AC, Thurles Crokes and Templemore AC.

Spectators should enjoy two competitive races over these classic distances.
