Farmer of Year finalist from Fethard

Hugh  Brown, Fethard, finalist in the Macra Young Farmer of the Year.
The Tipperary FBD Young Farmer of the Year regional finalists has been announced as Hugh Browne from Fethard in South Tipperary; and Mike Ahern, from Newport in North Tipperary.

The Tipperary FBD Young Farmer of the Year regional finalists has been announced as Hugh Browne from Fethard in South Tipperary; and Mike Ahern, from Newport in North Tipperary.

They will go on to represent their regions at the semi-final of the 15th annual FBD Young Farmer of the Year Competition, run by Macra na Feirme in partnership with the IFA.

The regional finalists will compete against 22 of the country’s other top young farmers in the national semi-finals, which take place this week. Six finalists will then be chosen to go through to the national final on September 3.

Hugh is 22 years old and deals in dairy and beef on his home farm in Fethard. He is currently studying Agricultural Science in UCD with already one year completed. The future plans increasing to maximum stocking rates and improving grasslands while also keeping costs as low as possible. The growing cost of essential input materials such as concentrates and fertilisers are the main concerns for Hugh. He is mainly involved with Macra and attends all the events and activities when he gets a chance.
