Five jobs are to be lost in Cashel, when the Xtravision on the Main Street closes next Tuesday (February 17th).
Staff were told the bad news on Monday morning last week, and a closing down sale has been announced. It’s understood the store is one of eight nationally to close. Tallaght based Xtra-vision received a boost last year after it was bought out of receivership by UK restructuring firm Hilco for just under €5m. Hilco also owns HMV in Ireland and the UK. The news comes as another blow to the town following the closure of the Cashel Palace hotel before Christmas. Xtravision closed its Cahir and Roscrea stores in 2013. The nearest Xtravisions to Cashel are now in either Thurles, Clonmel or Tipperary town. The downturn in movie rentals is blamed on the rise in customers going online instead.
