Fethard and District Day Care has received over €6.5million in their stage 2 application for capital funds to repurpose the former Presentation Convent site.

“The agreed CAS funding for this element is €6,520,000, this represents a huge investment in the town centre, of Fethard , and will ensure the ongoing development of services to our elders, enabling them to live independently in the heart of our community,” said Liam Hayes,Chairperson of Fethard and District Day Care.

The design team OC and C architects will now proceed to the planning application. Fethard Day Care will host a public consultation meeting during this process. Subject to a successful planning application, an advert will then be placed on E Tender to facilitate the appointment of a contractor with a view to beginning construction in the Spring of 2027 with a completion date of Summer 2028.

Fethard Day Care is ambitious to develop a new Day Care Centre as part of this development and will be included in the planning application.

“This will enable us to offer increased services and places to our elders, helping them to live out their lives in their homes. This element of the development is totally dependent on receiving the necessary Capital Funding from the HSE, an application has been lodged. This would bring the total investment at the Fethard Convent to €8,700,000. Fethard and District Day Care Centre would have a cofunding requirement of €1,200,000 approx., depending on successful grant applications.

This will represent a huge investment in Fethard, securing the services to our elderly and creating more local employment opportunities.
