The All-Ireland Senior and Under 20 Hurling cups were brought on a grand tour of Carrick-on-Suir's schools by four Swan GAA Club hurlers who are on the panels of both Tipperary teams.

Aaron O’Halloran, Gavin O’Halloran, Stefan Tobin and Callum Lanigan received a huge welcome at the town’s primary and secondary schools when they visited with the Liam MacCarthy Cup and James Nowlan Cup on September 19.

Brothers Aaron and Gavin O’Halloran are members of the Tipperary Senior Hurling team panel with Aaron also a player on the Tipperary Under-20 hurling team. Stefan Tobin and Callum Lanigan are members of the Tipperary’s Under 20 hurling panel.

They received a very special welcome at Edmund Rice Secondary School where crystal plaques were presented to three of the hurlers – Aaron, Stefan and Callum - as they are past pupils of the boys school.

Principal Majella Gleeson said the school was proud to see its three past pupils who are involved with the Tipperary teams.

Sports teacher Mr Fahey highlighted the three past pupils’ sporting achievements during their school years and spoke of how they showed great skill at an early age and trained very hard.

He described the four hurlers as “leading lights” for the Swan Club and declared it was a “fantastic achievement” for the club to produce players of this standard.

The players thanked staff and students for inviting and were delighted to take time to pose for photos with students and staff before heading off with their coaches and Carrick Swan GAA Club representatives to visit other schools in the town.
