Close to 80 older people from Grangemockler and Ballyneale attended the parish’s annual senior citizens party in the Cardinal Browne Community Hall in Grangemockler on Sunday, January 25.

They were treated to a fabulous meal and live music performed by Tony Egan who kept everyone entertained and dancing after the dinner.

Before the music and dancing started, local tour guide and storyteller Walter Power regaled the attendance with an intriguing rich history of the parish, its historic buildings and the fascinating connection to the late Cardinal Browne, head of the Dominicans, who made a return visit to the parish in 1962.

Photographs documenting Cardinal Browne's visit, which have been enlarged, now adorn the walls of the community hall capturing local people of that era celebrating the occasion.

The social also included a raffle. Grangemockler Community Hall Chairman Martin Madden thanked all who sponsored its many prizes.

He thanked the parish for financing the event, the Cardinal Browne Community Hall Committee for providing the facility and all the volunteers who helped out at the party.

Thanks was also extended to musician Tony Egan and Billy Murphy from Portlaw for the excellent catering on the day.

Everyone enjoyed the party and look forward to future social events in the Cardinal Browne Hall.
