A Tipperary tourist attraction remains one of the most popular attractions in Ireland, according to new figures.

The Rock of Cashel is among the top tourist attractions in Ireland according to the Office of Public Works (OPW), with 365,505 visitors to the attraction in 2024.

Last year's figure is up on the figure for 2023, which saw 357,273 people visit the site in that year.

The Rock of Cashel was the third most popular attraction in 2024, behind Kilkenny Castle which came in second, and Dublin Castle which ranked in first place.

Nationally, 13.8million people visited OPW sites in 2024, highlighting continued visitor engagement with Ireland’s historic castles, monuments and green recreational spaces across the country.

The OPW is responsible for 780 heritage sites nationwide, with multiple sites across the country reporting increases in visitor numbers.

Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, Kevin “Boxer” Moran said that the numbers will be bolstered by the opening of a number of new tourist attractions, including one in county Tipperary.

"From medieval castles to ancient monuments - the continued investment by the State in our rich and unique heritage portfolio is essential for the safeguarding and preservation of our built heritage.

"We look forward to opening the magnificent Barryscourt Castle in County Cork next month, and the re-opening of Emo Court County Laois and Ormond Castle County Tipperary will also bolster visitor volumes in their respective areas," he said.

Mr Moran continued, saying: "our heritage sites are an important part of our national identity and shared history and offer a unique insight into the lives and stories of our ancestors.

"Whether you are interested in ancient monuments, historic houses, gardens, or museums, there is something for everyone to explore and appreciate," he added.
