‘It’s the most wonderful time of the year’ and whether you prefer to curl up on the couch all day or dress up to the nines, there is always room for a feel good movie during the holiday season.

We have broken down the top ten movies to watch over the Christmas period that will make you feel good despite the food coma!

  • Home Alone 

Home Alone is a classic must watch during the festive period. Eight-year-old Kevin is accidentally left behind when his family leaves for France. At first, he's happy to be in charge; but when thieves try to break into his home, he puts up a fight like no other. 

  • Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

From the surroundings of New York to the scary pigeon lady, the second Home Alone movie is also a classic holiday watch. Kevin accidentally boards a flight to New York City and gets separated from his family who are on their way to Miami. He then bumps into two of his old enemies, who plan to rob a toy store.

  • Love Actually 

‘Love Actually is all around us.’ If you have not seen this movie or if you have seen it a thousand times, Love Actually is a necessary watch during the Christmas season. It will have you crying, laughing and wishing you could have a cute airport moment this Christmas. The film narrates the story of eight couples, of mixed-bag ages and walks of life, who encounter love in their own special ways; all this in the beautiful days leading up to Christmas in London.

  • The Holiday

Ladies and gentlemen this movie has Jude Law. Is it Christmas if we are not seeing him on our screens as Mr Napkin Head? The Holiday is an all time favourite feel good holiday film. Two girls from different countries swap homes for the holidays to get away from their relationship issues. However, their lives change unexpectedly when they meet and fall in love with two local guys.

  • Elf 

Everyone loves Buddy the elf and this family friendly movie is all you need to get you into the Christmas spirit. Buddy, a human, is raised amongst elves at the North Pole. When he discovers that he is not an elf, he travels to New York to search for his biological father.

  • The Christmas Chronicles

This movie will bring you back to what it feels like to be a child at Christmas and if you are watching it with the family, it is a great way to capture the magic of the season. Siblings Kate and Teddy Pierce hatch a scheme to capture Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. When the plan goes awry, the kids join forces with a somewhat jolly Saint Nick and his loyal elves to save the holiday before it's too late.

  • Christmas with the Kranks

This movie highlights how people come together around the holidays and is a must see. The Kranks scandalise everyone when they declare that they won't be celebrating Christmas. But, when their daughter decides to visit home, they get off on a mad rush to organise a spanking Christmas.

  • The Santa Clause

A Christmas classic where Tim Allen will have you laughing and crying. It is a must see this holiday season. By helping Santa Claus with a Christmas crisis, Scott unknowingly agrees to become the next Santa Claus. Now, he has to deal with a suspicious former wife while trying to keep his secret safe.

  • Deck the Halls

This is a movie that will have you laughing and crying. Steve and his new neighbour, Buddy, try to outdo each other in decorating their houses for Christmas. However, Buddy's extravagantly-decorated house overshadows Steve's, causing a conflict.

  • Nativity 

This brings you back to school days and if you are watching it with the family or by yourself, it will no doubt make you feel the holiday spirit.
