A new SEN class has been sanctioned for Presentation Primary School in Clonmel

Tipperary SEN classes

An additional SEN class for Clonmel will come to Presentation Primary School

It is hoped that a new special educational needs (SEN) class for South Tipperary will help alleviate pressure on two schools in the area who are already at capacity.

A new SEN class has been sanctioned by the Department of Education for Presentation Primary School in Clonmel for the coming school year, in addition to a further SEN class that has been sanctioned for St. Peter and Paul’s School.

The news of the new class was welcomed by South Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath, who said that South Tipp will now have eight new special educational needs classes in the new school year.

"I am delighted that another new Special Class has been sanctioned for the town of Clonmel with the Presentation Primary School now sanctioned for a class. This new class is in addition to St. Peter & Paul’s School which was sanctioned last week," Deputy McGrath said.

"This brings to 8 the number of new special classes approved in South Tipperary over the last few weeks and I am continuing to work with other schools who are still waiting for sanction," he added.

It is hoped now that the new classes will ease pressure for parents of children with special educational needs who have failed to get a place in special schools in the county.

"The additional spaces will continue to bring relief to parents but the stress continues particularly with a severe shortage now for spaces in Special Schools with both Scoil Chormaic and Scoil Aonghusa at full capacity and a number of children having failed to obtain a class for September 2025.

The South Tipperary TD added: "I was delighted to welcome Minister of State for Special Education to Scoil Aonghusa so that he could see first hand the difficulties facing the school.

"The two new classes in Clonmel town will be welcome news as the town had a real shortage of classes to date," Deputy McGrath concluded.
