Declan, Joanne, Ava and Levi outside their new home in Newcastle
After an incredible show of community solidarity, a young Tipperary family has just moved into their new home in Newcastle, generating a great outpouring of emotion among family and friends.
It was a weekend of great emotion for Declan O’Halloran, his wife Joanne, and their children Ava and Levi, who took up residence in their new home in Newcastle thanks to the generosity of so many people and the amazing work of so many volunteers.

It was a very proud moment for Declan, who was diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy(MSA), a rare and progressive neurological disease.
Nine months ago, a call was put out asking people to help Declan and Joanne finish their home after Declan’s devastating diagnosis. That request was followed by a huge outpouring of support..
Through the kindness, generosity, and powerful community spirit, the Do It for Declan campaign raised in excess of €196,000, with thousands more put into the house through voluntary labour and donated materials.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every single person who donated, fundraised, shared the story, showed up, supported our events, or simply wished us well. Your support has been truly overwhelming.
To the volunteers, tradespeople, local businesses, event organisers, neighbours, friends, and strangers who helped, we will be forever grateful.

Because of your generosity, Declan and Joanne can finally enjoy the security and warmth of a home that meets their needs,” said one of the people behind the Do It For Declan campaign.
There are still a few jobs to be carried out in the house before the project is completed.
“This has been a shining example of what true community spirit can achieve, and we are so grateful for the community that came together to support our campaign. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you all for your support . We send our love and best wishes to Declan, Joanne, Ava, and Levi — may this new home bring joy, peace, comfort, and precious time together as a family for many years to come,” said the Do It For Declan group member.
