Cllr Richie Molloy says that the pedestrian crossing on the Fethard Road in Clonmel needs to be restored
A call has been made for the restoration of the pedestrian crossing on Clonmel’s bypass road, between the Fethard Road and Tesco roundabouts.
Cllr Richie Molloy told a meeting of Clonmel Borough District that the crossing is used by a huge number of people. However, for some reason TII (Transport Infrastructure Ireland) didn’t seem to want it.
The flashing lights at the crossing had been vandalised some years ago and were never replaced. Now might be the opportunity to do so.

Motorists were inclined to speed in that area because there were no flashing lights at what was an unofficial crossing, said Cllr Molloy.

He wondered if they were waiting for someone to be seriously injured before something was done. The crossing is vital for people and they were really depending on motorists stopping, he said.
District Engineer Gillian Flynn said she would highlight this issue with TII and try to get something moving on it.
She also said that three priority items on the N24 bypass would be included on the agenda for the council’s annual meeting with TII - improvements to the junction with the Heywood Road, maintenance funding and an improved pedestrian crossing.
