Repairs to road damaged during storm in Tipperary could cost €140,000

The road will be closed for a period of time

It will cost approximately €140,000 to repair a section of the Marlfield Road in Clonmel that was damaged during a recent storm.

Tipperary County Council Engineer James Murray told a meeting of Clonmel Borough District that part of the road at Tobaraheena Well had fallen away during heavy rainfall.

The Department of Transport had been contacted on Monday morning to try and secure funding for the repairs.They would need to look at a comprehensive solution.

The road will be closed for a period of time, Mr Murray stated.

He said that the staff had worked through difficult conditions to close the road.

District Engineer Gillian Flynn acknowledged the work of the council staff and the fire service when the incident was reported at night.


She said they were fortunate that the diversion, near Glenleigh Court on a side road by Tobaraheena Well, was quite simple and didn’t interfere with anyone.

The council staff were also praised by the Mayor, Cllr Pat English and Cllr Siobhán Ambrose for their response to the incident.
