Tipperary students showcase their entrepreneurial skills at community events

As part of aTransition Year Enterprise module, students from CTI in Clonmel  Clonmelhad the exciting opportunity to take part in two Christmas markets held locally in December.

These markets allowed students to showcase their entrepreneurial skills, gain real-world business experience, and become involved in the local community during the festive season.

The first market took place in the Mall on December 6 , where Transition Year groups set up stalls to sell their products at fair and affordable prices.

The range of stalls was impressive and included DIY snow globes, scented candles, churros, gingerbread cookies, and even a beanbag throwing game that proved popular with shoppers of all ages.

The group sold festive scented candles for €5 and gingerbread cookies for €3.
Each group was given a one-hour time slot, and ours ran from 2:00pm to 3:00pm.

The atmosphere in the Mall was lively and bustling, with many local traders also selling handmade goods and festive treats.
The students were delighted to sell around half of their stock, making the experience both enjoyable and rewarding.

The second Christmas market was held in the Plaza on December 13, where more products were sold.
Despite the weather not being ideal, there was still a strong turnout, with many families enjoying the festive atmosphere. Numerous small businesses were present, offering a wide variety of food, sweets, ornaments, jewellery, and other Christmas gifts.

This event was shared with other Transition Year students from schools across Clonmel, creating a great sense of community and collaboration. Overall, the Christmas markets were a valuable and memorable experience for all involved. They helped develop important skills such as teamwork, communication, money management, and customer service, while also giving students a taste of what it is like to run a real business.
