Concern expressed about anti-social behaviour in Tipperary's largest town

District Mayor describes meeting with garda chief as ‘extremely positive’
The Mayor of Clonmel Borough District, Siobhán Ambrose, has described as extremely positive the meeting that she recently organised between herself, Clonmel Borough District Manager Jonathan Cooney and Garda Superintendent James Hallahan.
According to the Mayor, the meeting was very productive and covered a wide range of issues.
These included the numerous anti-social behaviour issues at various locations around the Clonmel District, the possible rollout of specific community projects and also the intervention of the council with respect to possible engineering solutions in an attempt to support the gardaí in their role.
“I also took the opportunity again to thank the Superintendent and his fellow gardaí for the huge role that they play in policing the Clonmel District,” said Cllr Ambrose.
“I also acknowledged the ongoing challenges faced by members of the gardaí on a daily basis in carrying out their duties.
“One of the main challenges is of course manpower and to this end a motion that I had submitted, calling for additional garda resources for the Clonmel District has also been sent to the Garda Commissioner, who is responsible for both the allocation (number of gardaí) and also the location of new gardaí graduating from the Garda College in Templemore.
“Overall, this was a hugely productive meeting and I look forward to working with both the Borough Manager and the Superintendent in relation to the issues that were raised at this meeting,” Cllr Ambrose added.
