Elderly Tipperary residents object to Clonmel gaming centre at Chawke's Bar

One submission against the plans was signed by about 80 local residents
As the window for submissions closed earlier this week for a proposed gaming centre at the former Chawke’s Bar in Clonmel, eight separate submissions had been made against plans for a gaming centre at the former Chawke’s Bar in Clonmel.
Of the eight, three of the submissions came from the same named person.
One letter, from the residents of Marian Court sheltered housing, asked the council to consider the fact that a development like this would ‘cause upset to us the residents, all of whom are elderly’.
‘Many of us are infirm and vulnerable and need the comfort and security, which Marian Court provides, for our wellbeing’.
The board of Marian Court sheltered housing also objected to the plans, saying such a development could cause ‘upset’ to their residents.
Another submission was jointly signed by about 80 local residents, objecting particularly to the fact that the centre plans on operating until 1am, and the fact that there is already a gaming centre across the road.
Parking concerns also ranked high among worries, noise late at night, and potential anti-social behaviour, concerns shared in other submissions made to the council.
An agent acting on behalf of one objector claimed that a facility that is proposed is at odds with the council’s own development plan, that instead ‘places great weight on retail and retail-related activities’.
The planning documents submitted for the gaming centre indicate that the operating hours are to be from 9am to 1am, with diagrams showing an internal layout with about 47 stools and arcade machines.
A decision on the planning permission is due in about two weeks,
