Roscrea gardaí seized a huge haul of illegal fireworks
Roscrea gardaí seized a huge haul of illegal fireworks on October 17 in the lead up to Halloween at a number of private properties in the heritage town.
As part of Operation Tombola, which targets the supply of illegal fireworks, gardaí conducted a search of a number of properties in Roscrea yesterday.
During the course of the searches, fireworks valued at over €600 were discovered.
A small amount of suspected cannabis was also seized. The drugs seized are now subject to analysis.
In advance of a busy night for all emergency services, An Garda Síochána would like to remind people that the sale, possession and use of fireworks in this country is illegal.
Fireworks are dangerous and can cause serious injury and/or distress to people and pets, as well as potentially causing fires in properties if they continue to burn after landing.
It is an offence to throw or direct any ignited firework at a person or property.
Local gardaí are particularly appealing to parents and adults to advise children of the hazards fireworks pose. They also cause serious disturbance for livestock, wild animals and pets.
Anyone with any information relating to the illegal use or sale of fireworks is asked to contact their local Garda station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
