RIP: Funeral details announced for midwife whose body was found in Tipperary

Funeral details have been announced for Grace Aseidua Benyin, the Tipperary woman whose body was found after a major missing-person search, as her family and community prepare to say their final goodbyes.

Grace, who lived at Liscara, Old Toberaheena, Clonmel, and was originally from Accra, Ghana, will be laid to rest following funeral services in Clonmel, with her family requesting privacy as they grieve an unimaginable loss.

Grace is deeply mourned by her husband Frederick, her children Tracy, Epaphras, Joseph and Queency, her parents, brothers and sisters, extended family, friends and colleagues. The announcement follows weeks of anxiety after Grace was reported missing, prompting Garda appeals and extensive searches by emergency services and local volunteers.

Her body was later discovered in a rural area outside Clonmel, bringing a devastating end to the search. A post-mortem examination was carried out, and Gardaí have indicated that there is no suspicion of foul play, describing the circumstances as a personal tragedy.

Grace had been working as a midwife at Tipperary University Hospital and was widely described as compassionate, hardworking and deeply committed to caring for others, both through her profession and within her family. 

Tributes from friends, colleagues and members of the Irish and Ghanaian communities have highlighted her kindness, strong faith and the profound love she had for her children, with many speaking of the huge void her death has left behind.

In the days following the confirmation of her death, vigils were held and fundraising efforts were launched to support her family, particularly her young children, as they face life without their mother.

As funeral arrangements are now confirmed, the focus has turned to celebrating Grace Benyin’s life and legacy, with those who knew her determined that she will be remembered not for the tragedy of her death, but for the care, warmth and compassion she showed to everyone around her.

Burial will take place in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Clonmel on Friday 16th January 2026 at 12.00pm with a private celebration of Grace’s life to be held afterwards for family and friends.
