Ronan Maher is one of the garda sports stars who are attending the National Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Tullamore, Co Offaly today.
Some of the organisation’s best sporting talent will are at the championships to chat to attendees about why they think a career in An Garda Síochána is a job worth doing.
The active nature of working in An Garda Síochána means most gardaí are not typically desk-based and get to work on their fitness as part of the job. The gardaí say that no one can explain this element of the role better than the sports star members of the force.

As well as Ronan Maher, the other gardaí who will be present are -
Garda Shaun Patton – the goalkeeper on the Donegal senior football team who were runners-up in the All-Ireland final;
Detective Garda Fiona Reidy, who won 20 caps on the Irish Women’s Rugby team;

Garda Megan Thynne – a two-time All-Ireland winner with the Meath Ladies Senior football team; and
Garda Aaron Masterson – a member of the Kildare Senior football team that won the Tailteann Cup this year.
They will be available to meet people at An Garda Síochána's stand (Block 3, Row 15, Stand 291).
