As the election countdown draws closer Sinn Féin Tipperary North candidate Dan Harty is enjoying meeting the people.

“I have got a great reaction on the doorsteps,” says Sinn Féin candidate Dan Harty as he is on the canvass trail.

He has a natural way with people and is a social person who has extensive knowledge of the democratic system having obtained a Degree in Archaeology and Celtic Civilisation as well as a post graduate degree in Business and Supply Chain Management.

Meeting people, listening to them and communicating comes easily to Dan Harty who has met hundreds of people in recent weeks: “I would love to get to all parts of the county and the rural areas to meet people, but with the short run in I have focused this time on the urban areas of Tipperary and over around Kilkenny,” he says.

So, what was it like across the border with voters who have never before voted for a Tipperary candidate?

“People have been very genuine and it has been great getting to meet people everywhere.

“In Kilkenny I canvassed with Evan Barry (another Sinn Féin Tipperary North candidate) so I have been flat out,” the former soccer and GAA player says.

Having a running partner from across the border has helped Dan get to meet people who are looking at this election as a complete change from previous times.

The weather on the trail has been seasonal with canvassers experiencing sleet and snow in bitter conditions last Thursday as well as glorious sunshine the week before.

“The people have been really civil and genuine on the doorsteps and we have got a great reaction. Basically people can opt for things to stay as they are or opt for change and we have many candidates nationwide so we provide a real alternative to the current Government.
