A burglary that took place in a housing estate in Ardfinnan during which two pet dogs were drowned in a barrel of water has caused great upset in the community.
The burglary and the drowning of the two dogs took place at a house in Castle View in Ardfinnan last Saturday.
The drowning of the two dogs was described as “barbaric” by local councillor Máirín McGrath.
“What happened is so upsetting for everyone.
“I was disgusted and so horrified by what happened,” said Cllr McGrath.
“Not only is it a huge invasion of privacy to have your own house broken into and ransacked but also a brutal and savage crime to have your family pets, your two dogs drowned in such a barbaric fashion.
“I would appeal to anyone who might have seen anything unusual in that part of Ardfinnan on Saturday to contact Cahir Gardaí,” said Cllr McGrath. Gardaí in Cahir are appealing for information following the Castle View burglary.

A substantial sum of cash was reported stolen following the incident.
No arrests have been made at this time. Investigations are ongoing.
Investigating gardaí are appealing to anyone with information or anyone who may have noticed any unusual activity in the Castle View area between 8pm on Saturday, February 11 until 12.30am on Sunday February 12, to come forward to them.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cahir Garda Station on 052 744 5630, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
