Tipperary native Mary Claire Ryan performs in the show

In the Midst of Plenty is a new folk musical touring Ireland in 2023 and it’s coming to Tipperary Excel on Saturday, July 8.

The show features an original contemporary folk score performed by some of Ireland’s best-loved actors and musicians, including Cappawhite, county Tipperary native Mary Claire Ryan, seen recently in the acclaimed film The Banshees of Inisherin.

The show traces the story of the so-called Missing 1490 who fled Strokestown at the height of the Great Hunger as part of their landlord’s forced emigration scheme.

With book and music by singer-songwriter Amy Day and artistic direction by Anne-Marie O’Sullivan, the show sold out all its debut performances in 2022, receiving glowing reviews.

It is touring with the support of the National Famine Way and the Irish Heritage Trust.

The performance in Tipperary is made possible through the Tipperary County Council Festivals and Events Grant Scheme.

It will be performed at the Tipperary Excel on Saturday, July 8 at 8pm. Booking at 062-80520.
