An impression of the new housing development in Upper Irishtown, Clonmel
The final grant of planning permission has been issued for the construction of 93 housing units at the former Clonmel Foods site in Upper Irishtown, Clonmel.
The proposal is for the construction of 93 units comprising 30 houses and 63 apartments, two retail units, a café and a riverside walk.
The planning permission for the former meat processing plant was granted by Tipperary County Council to South City Developments Ltd.
Welcoming the news, Cllr Siobhán Ambrose says “This is great news for Clonmel, as we badly need additional housing units.
“In addition to supporting the demand for housing in Clonmel this development will also be of huge benefit to local businesses, schools and clubs in the area.
“When I was Mayor in 2020 I contacted the owners regarding this derelict site,” she stated.
“Following our discussions they painted the outside of this site, repaired the side access and progressed to the planning stage of this project.
“This site has been derelict for many years and with the final grant of permission now issued, we look forward to it being redeveloped for much needed housing units in Clonmel”.
