Death of former secretary of Tipperary soccer team that competed in the League of Ireland

The late Sean Deegan

The death has taken place of Seán Deegan, barrister-at-law, late of Thurles, England, Dublin and most recently, Rochfortbridge.

Mr Deegan, 87, was secretary of Thurles Town FC when they played in the League of Ireland from 1977/78 until the 1981/82 season.

Mr Deegan passed away peacefully on 30 July 30, at Drumderrig Nursing Home, Boyle, county Roscommon.

He was eldest son of John and Margaret Deegan, both of Thurles, and brother of Tomás and Pádraig, all who predeceased him.

Deeply regretted by his wife Helena Buckley; niece Paula; nephews Gerard, Aidan and Maurice; cousins and in-laws.

Seán will be sadly missed by his friends and associates in the sports he loved, his former roles including secretary of Thurles Town FC during its League of Ireland seasons, and simultaneously membership of the FAI Council, and in a variety of interests, including Bridge, that he followed over his long life.

Reposing in Hugh Ryan's Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles, on Tuesday, August 1, from 6pm to 7pm. Arriving at the Cathedral of the Assumption, Thurles, at 7.45pm.

Requiem Mass on Wednesday, August 2, at 11am.

Burial afterwards in Two-Mile Borris cemetery, Thurles.
