Tipperary Model Flying Club was founded in 1967 as an outlet for building model aerplanes and flying them in a safe open area.

Over the years, the club has grown in strength, and the models being flown vary from traditional trainer aircraft, such as a Cessna, to World War II warbirds such as the Spitfire, Hurricane and Messerschmitt ME109.

Helicopters have increased in popularity also due to better control electronics, and many members also have multi-rotor drones.

We are lucky to have a dedicated flying field in Derryhogan Bog, Littleton.

This field provides a very safe and open area for model flying, that is free of housing, power lines and trees.

We can fly there on all days of the week, weather permitting.

The area surrounding the flying field is mainly bogland, which provides a very gentle landing site should a fliers land their aircraft “off the field.”

Presently, we are working with a small group of fourth Year TY students in CBS Thurles.

The students assembled an electric EFlite Apprentice trainer model aircraft and flew it successfully at Thurles.

Racecourse last week in ideal flying conditions. This was the first time the students had taken to the air and performed brilliantly.

We look forward to continuing this project with them, and maybe some students will carry forward model aircraft construction as a Leaving Cert project.

Since covid our membership has declined, and we are now actively looking for new members for our club.
We will provide lessons to any interested newcomers so you can try out our hobby before you make any investment in equipment.
