Local councillor extends her condolences following fatal crash in Tipperary

Councillor Fiona Bonfield has expressed her sadness following yesterday's fatal crash in Rearcross.

Posting on social media, the Newport councillor said:

"My thoughts and prayers go to the family of that young girl who was fatally injured in a road traffic accident yesterday evening in Rearcross.

"We also think of all others who were injured in the accident, and hope for a speedy recovery for all.

"We also think and pray for the school community where that young girl was a student. We also think of all the medical teams, first responders, Gardai, emergency teams and the community in Rearcross.

"Its so heartbreaking for all. Please be careful when driving on our road network and please slow down.

"Ar Dheis De Go Raibh a Anam," said Cllr Bonfield.

Local Labour Party activist Louise Morgan also posted saying:

"My thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the deceased.

"The section of the R503 Rearcross – Newport Road remains closed this morning to facilitate examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with local traffic diversions in place.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Nenagh Garda Station at 067 50450, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

The two-car collision happened at around 6:45pm yesterday evening on the R503 Rearcross.

A 15-year-old girl, a passenger in one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 20s, a woman in her 20s and another teenage girl, as well as the driver, an adult woman, were taken to UHL by ambulance.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

'Deeply saddened'

This morning Tipperary TD Michael Lowry extended his sympathies to the victims and their families.

The deputy said on social media:

"I am deeply saddened and extend my heartfelt sympathies to the victims and their families affected by the tragic incident on the R503 at Rearcross.

"On Thursday evening, a devastating road accident involving two vehicles resulted in the loss of a young 15-year-old girl's life and left four others hospitalised.

"The loss of such a young life is a profound tragedy, and my thoughts are with the grieving family during this incredibly difficult time.

"My thoughts, prayers, and support are also with everyone touched by this heartbreaking incident."
