Uisce Éireann has come under fire for not yet rectifying a poorly reinstated section of road on the N24 in Carrick-on-Suir after repairing water mains bursts there a few months ago.

Carrick-on-Suir Cllr David Dunne complained to council management at Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District’s July meeting about Uisce Éireann’s failure to repair the badly reinstated section of the Pill Road that had to be dug up to carry out the repairs.

He first highlighted the issue at Carrick MD’s April meeting where he strongly criticised Uisce Éireann for not replacing the old water main under the N24 on the Pill Road when the national route was undergoing a €6.8m upgrade last year. That project included the laying of a new road surface.

Just months after the N24’s resurfacing, the water main under the Pill Road burst twice in the space of three weeks. Cllr Dunne was critical of the standard of some of the road reinstatement works carried out by Uisce Éireann after the mains was repaired.

“I think it’s utterly disgraceful that a brand new road has been destroyed,” he said.

District Engineer Denis Power responded that he was in discussions with Uisce Éireann about getting that section of the N24 repaired.
