Local Tipperary town set to benefit from Uisce Éireann investment

Fethard will benefit from the investment

Local Tipperary town set to benefit from Uisce Éireann investment

Fethard is set to benefit from a €15 million investment by Uisce Éireann to deliver a major upgrade to the existing Wastewater Treatment Plant in the town.

The project, which is set to begin this month will significantly modernise and improve the performance and capacity of the plant and will unlock future growth and development in the area.

It will also improve the quality of treated wastewater discharged into the Clashawley River and ensure compliance with wastewater regulations.

The upgrade will include equipment for handling incoming wastewater, stormwater storage, and improved tanks for treating wastewater.

The project also includes new pumps and enhancements to existing technology, aiming to boost the plant's efficiency in processing wastewater to a high standard.

Paul Fallon, Portfolio Manager at Uisce Éireann, emphasised the importance of this project for the local community: "We’re looking forward to beginning construction of this critical project for the people of Fethard. When complete, this new infrastructure will ensure improved water quality in the Clashawley River, protecting the local environment. It will also enable much needed growth and development in the area as well as ensuring compliance with national and European wastewater regulations".

The works are expected to be completed by late 2026.

The project will be delivered by Murphy Process Engineering, Ireland on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

Works will be conducted almost entirely within the confines of the existing wastewater treatment plant and adjacent field, minimising traffic disruption in the locality during construction.

Paul continued: "This is one of several major investments currently underway by Uisce Éireann in the Premier County. The Clonmel Water Supply upgrade commenced recently to provide a more reliable and resilient water supply for the town. The Ballina and Newport Wastewater Treatment Plants are under construction with completions due in late 2024 and early 2025 respectively, while a €3 million upgrade of the Cahir Wastewater Treatment Plant was completed in August".
