Burst main results in water supply outage in several Tipperary communities

Uisce Éireann crews are working to repair a burst water main that has resulted in the loss of water supply to Giantsgrave, Ratheevin, New Chapel, Condon’s Cross, Nichlastown and the surrounding areas today (Friday, October 11).

Repair crews are on site undertaking the repair with water supply expected to return for all customers by approximately 6pm today.

The utility said following repair works, it typically takes two to three hours for normal supply to be fully restored to all areas as the water refills the network, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.

This water outage follows hot on the heels of yesterday's water supply outage affecting customers on the Ardfinnan Regional Water Supply Scheme. It was caused by an issue at the treatment plant. Water was restored to affected customers yesterday evening. Reservoir levels continue to recover following this interruption.

Uisce Éireann said that following the treatment plant interruption yesterday and watermain burst today, water levels at the reservoirs are low.

Customers whose supply has returned are being asked to be mindful of their usage, to allow supply to catch up with demand and enable reservoirs to fully replenish.

Uisce Éireann will continue to monitor water levels and inform our customers of any further supply disruptions.

Uisce Éireann’s Colin Cunningham said: “We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate the community’s patience as we work to restore the water supply for affected customers.”

"Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours."

He added that Uisce Éireann continues to provide detailed, real-time, and local information on our water service and supply issues page. (Ref. TIP00084004).
