'Light Up Nenagh 2025' kicks off Christmas with music festivities and town lights

Nenagh’s streets were alight today as the town inaugurated its festive season with the ceremonial switching on of the Christmas lights.

The event, a carefully curated blend of music, theatre and spectacle, unfolded along Pearse Street where local talent and visiting performers alike gathered for an open-air concert that began at 3pm.

From Trudi Lalor and Robbie Glennon to the Misneach Choir and the Musical Theatre Academy of Nenagh, the programme promised something for every ear, culminating in the illumination of the town’s lights at 5.45pm.

The occasion marked the start of a month-long celebration organised by Tipperary County Council in partnership with Nenagh Live, Nenagh 800, Nenagh Tourist Office, Nenagh Chamber of Commerce and Spain AV.

The initiative seeks to establish Nenagh as a premier Christmas destination, blending traditional festivities with contemporary entertainment.

The day’s festivities were expansive. Beginning with the Light Up Nenagh 2025 event, the open-air concert showcased the town’s musical diversity, featuring Mamma Mia, Ireland’s number one Abba tribute show, alongside JP’s Gigantic Video Disco, Christmas karaoke, and appearances by Santa Claus, Mickey, and Minnie Mouse.

Children’s entertainment, dancers and a symphony of characters filled the main stage, presented on an outdoor platform equipped with a gigantic LED screen. The evening concluded with the lighting of the Tree of Remembrance at Nenagh Courthouse at 6.15pm.

For the duration of the event, Pearse Street, from the Market Cross to the junction with Kickham Street, was closed to traffic from 7.30am to 9.30pm, allowing families to wander safely among stalls, stages, and festive displays.

Nenagh’s Christmas calendar promises to extend this sense of spectacle and community throughout December, a testament to the town’s determination to cultivate a distinctive festive identity.

The combination of local pride, live performance, and twinkling lights ensured that the event on November 30 will be remembered as a bright beginning to the festive season for the people of Nenagh.
