Tipperary will host the inaugural meeting of its new Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP) on January 20. The county-wide initiative replaces the former Joint Policing Committees and is designed to enhance collaboration on public safety and community wellbeing.

The LCSP model has already been piloted in Longford, Waterford, and Dublin. Compared with the previous committees, the new structure involves wider representation but fewer public representatives.

In Tipperary, the partnership will include seven elected councillors, alongside members from Tipperary County Council, An Garda Síochána, the HSE, TUSLA, education providers, local businesses, and youth services.

Each of the county’s five Municipal Districts will have a resident representative. In addition, the partnership will include representatives speaking on behalf of older people, minority or new communities, people with disabilities, social inclusion, and the voluntary sector. Nominations for the older person’s representative are open until December 18.

The LCSP’s role will be to develop actions and projects aimed at improving safety throughout the county. The partnership will be supported by two full-time council staff and will operate under the supervision of the Department of Justice.

Ms Aine Roche has been appointed LCSP coordinator for Tipperary, while a voluntary chairperson will be elected at the first meeting for a three-year term.

The public and organisations can contact the partnership via email at lcsp@tipperarycoco.ie
