Roscrea town
Roscrea is set to benefit from a significant investment in community supports following the announcement by the Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley, of ten new Family Resource Centres (FRCs) across Ireland.
Among these, a new centre will be established in Roscrea, serving the wider North Tipperary area.
The Roscrea Family Resource Centre CLG will be based at Friar’s Court and is intended to provide a comprehensive range of local services.
Family Resource Centres offer parenting programmes, child and youth supports, educational initiatives, wellbeing services, and community development activities.
The new centre is expected to strengthen early intervention and preventative services, giving families access to supports in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Michael Lowry TD described the announcement as “extremely positive news for Roscrea and the wider North Tipperary area.”
He said the designation of Roscrea Family Resource Centre “represents a significant investment in community supports and family services in the town” and reflects “the growing recognition of the vital role Roscrea plays as a service hub for the surrounding rural hinterland.”
The expansion increases the national network of FRCs from 126 to 136, building on the government’s 2025 commitment to open five additional centres.
Deputy Lowry highlighted that the announcement demonstrates “a clear commitment under the Programme for Government to expand and strengthen community-based family supports.”
He also commended local efforts, saying, “I want to commend all those involved locally in Roscrea who worked diligently to secure this designation. Their commitment to supporting families and building a stronger community has been rewarded with this very welcome outcome.”
Looking ahead, Lowry pledged to continue advocating for resources in the area. “I will continue to work to ensure that Roscrea and North Tipperary receive the resources and investment needed to support families, children and communities, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact this new Family Resource Centre will have in the years ahead,” he said.
