Thurles will host a rare intimate performance from internationally acclaimed musician Imelda May this March.
The 'Raised on Songs and Stories' show will take place at the Source Arts Centre on Saturday, 7 March, at 8 p.m., with tickets priced at €47 including fees.
The performance promises stripped-back renditions of May’s music, interwoven with her poetry and storytelling. “I’m coming to you soon!
It’ll be an evening of songs, poems, stories, joy and beauty,” May said. “This idea evolved naturally — I wanted to create a space where anything can happen, where I can share the stories behind the songs and reconnect with fans in a truly spontaneous way.”
Recently, May presented and executive produced the six-part RTÉ One and RTÉ Player series Amhráin na nGael, Imelda May: The Songs of the Irish.
The programme explored Ireland’s seminal music collectors, with May travelling through the Gaeltacht to examine the emotional resonance of sean-nós singing and her own connection with the Irish language.
Born in The Liberties, Dublin, May is among Ireland’s most celebrated artists. Her 2008 breakthrough album Love Tattoo remains the best-selling album by a homegrown female artist, while 2021’s 11 Past the Hour became her fourth album to top the Irish charts.
Her collaborations span luminaries including Jeff Beck, Bono, and Ronnie Wood, and she has toured internationally. May also recently appeared as Pierce Brosnan’s wife in Four Letters of Love, further demonstrating her versatility across music, theatre, poetry, and film.
Audience members should note that the production may include strobe lighting, flashing lights, smoke, and haze. Attendees under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Those wishing to be added to the cancellation list are advised to contact the box office.
