Dominic Moore has officially retired after 27 years at the Templemore institution, drawing warm tributes from colleagues who described a man defined by commitment, professionalism and good humour.
In a post shared on the college’s official Facebook page, the tone was one of gratitude and quiet admiration.
“After 27 years of loyal service to the Garda College, Dominic Moore has officially retired – and it’s safe to say he’s more than earned it,” the post began.
Mr Moore was pictured alongside Commissioner Justin Kelly as he received a token of appreciation to mark the occasion.
For almost three decades, he was a constant presence on campus, arriving each day, getting on with the task at hand and, as colleagues noted, doing so with a smile.
“Pictured here with Commissioner Justin Kelly as he receives a token of appreciation, Dominic leaves behind a legacy of hard work, quiet dedication and plenty of good humour. For nearly three decades he arrived faithfully to the college, got on with the job, and did it all with professionalism and a smile.”
Outside of his working life, Mr Moore’s resolve was equally evident. A former marathon runner, he built up what the college described as an “incredible record”, a testament to the determination and stamina that colleagues say he brought to his role.
“A former marathon runner with an incredible record to his name, Dominic’s determination and strength have always been part of who he is.”
Within the Facilities section and beyond, his departure will be keenly felt.
“A true gentleman and a great character, he will be hugely missed by colleagues in the Facilities section and his many friends throughout the college.”
The message concluded with a simple send off that reflected the affection in which he is held: “Wishing you a long, happy and well-deserved retirement, Dominic.”
