Ryan Hayes, son of Liam and Pauline Hayes, Harkin Park, Two Mile Borris has been selected on the Cahir Park A.F.C. team for the newly named George Best Community Cup.
This is a major highlight on the disability football calendar, with over 500 players representing clubs across Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England and Guernsey competing for the coveted trophy. The competition is for boys and girls over 15 years of age. It is for Disability Football Clubs, Adult Centres and Disability Organisations with teams made up of players with a learning and/or physical disability and/or sensory impairment. All players must be able to play without the need for mobility assistance (crutches, chairs, walkers, etc).
Cahir Park provide training on Saturdays between 2 and 3 pm. The pitch and facilities are provided free of charge and blitzes are held all over Ireland. Cahir Park A.F.C. became Tipperary's first Football Club to establish a Football For All Programe. This years competition takes place on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 June at the Billy Neill Centre of Excellence, on the Comber Road, Dundoland, Belfast. Divided into four divisions, the 5-a-side disability football event is for clubs and adult centres that provide learning, physical or sensory impairment programs for amateur football players across the province. Cahir Park will compete in the Medium Section which has twenty clubs, played on grass surface on a round format. Each team will play a minimum of five games on day one. Depending on results and performances on day one team will be placed into four competitive bands for day 2. This competition commemorates the legendary George Best, one of the greatest footballers of his era and beyond.
Ryan is congratulated on his selection and with colleagues Damien, Liam, Daniel, Luke and Paudie are wished every success. Fundraising is ongoing and thanks is extended to Billy Lanigan and Gerard Cantwell who made kind donations.
