Cashel Community School TY students celebrate International Women's Day

Transition Year students in Cashel Community School celebrated International Women’s Day last Thursday March 8th.

The students wanted to mark this day in conjunction with the celebration of the centenary of women’s suffrage and representation in Parliament. Inspiring posters were displayed in the female bathrooms and a display board celebrating inspirational women reminded students of the great achievements of women such as Mary Robinson, Veronica Guerin and Adi Roche. A panel of female speakers were invited to talk to the students.

Students dressed up as suffragettes to mark the struggle and sacrifices involved in achieving the right to vote.Topics such as resilience, self-compassion and ambition were discussed, the panel also shared with the students the advice they found most useful on their life journey, some of the challenges they met along the way and they also shared their quotes from their favourite authors. Students were reminded that with hard work, ambition and a little luck anything is possible. Students were left uplifted after this day of celebration the panel were thanked for giving their time to inspire the students.
