The death has taken place in University Hospital Limerick of former Nenagh publican John Ryan, following a short illness.
John and his late wife, Susan, ran the popular Half-Door pub and restaurant on Summerhill for a long number of years before his retirement. Susan passed away two years ago.
An avid hurling fan and staunch Kilruane MacDonaghs supporter, the Half-Door was the Kilruane pub in the town of Nenagh.
"He was a staunch Kilruane man," club chairman Joe Whelan told the Tipperary Star. "We will mourn his passing."
John hurled for Kilruane in his younger days and won honours with them in the 1950s.
"Our sympathies go to all his family," said Joe.
It was also a popular spot among golfers going to and from Nenagh Golf Club.
The Half-Door was also a popular with local drama fans, especially for the Nenagh Players, as Susan was a well respected actor with the group. Their son, Dermot, also starred in a number of Nenagh Players productions, most notably the Plough and the Stars and the Lion in Winter.
John is survived by his family, Liam, Joe, Damian, Denis, Deirdre and Dermot and their partners, as well as his grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements later.
